Cruising Through Life 🌊✨

October 01, 2025 by Tamara Winfield |
Cruising

So far, I’ve sailed with five different cruise lines, have one booked, and two more waiting in the wings. Let me spill the tea on what I’ve loved (and not loved) about each one—and give you a peek at what’s next.

Why Cruising Works for My Family

Here’s the deal: my husband and I have very different travel styles. I want to see the sights and do all the things. He wants to unplug, chill, and do as close to nothing as possible. Cruising is our happy medium.

When the ship docks, I get to explore. On sea days, he gets his “lay by the pool and maybe get a massage” time. Win-win. Plus, I love the whole “sample platter” of destinations—six to eight hours in port is plenty to figure out if I’d want to come back for a longer stay. Just don’t lose track of time… you do not want to be a pier runner sprinting to catch the ship. 🚢💨

Disney Cruise Line: The First One

My very first cruise was with my daughter when she was 10, and we went Disney. And wow—Disney never disappoints. From being announced as "Princess Skylar" when we boarded, to switching restaurants every night (but still having the same sweet waiters who remembered she wanted a Mickey Bar for dessert every single evening)… it was pure magic.

We even had tea with Alice and the Mad Hatter! Oh, and I’ll never forget meeting a couple in their 70s who cruise Disney all the time—without kids. They said it’s just that good, and honestly? I get it.

Carnival Cruise Line: Our Go-To

Carnival was our honeymoon cruise, and we’ve been hooked ever since. Anytime we take the kids, grandkids, or big family trips, it’s almost always Carnival. Even with their loyalty program changes (meh, not in our favor), we’ll still stick with them. Carnival is just fun, plain and simple.

Royal Caribbean: Big Ship, Big Energy

For my husband’s birthday, we tried Royal Caribbean, and let me tell you—those ships are huge. There was so much to see and do: an aqua show that was jaw-dropping, neighborhoods like Central Park with live trees, and even a boardwalk with a ten-story slide. Oh, and watching the Chiefs win the playoff game on a massive screen at sea? Unforgettable. 🏈⚓

MSC: Short and Sweet

Next up was MSC for my daughter’s golden birthday. I’d heard mixed things about the food, but honestly? We thought it was good. It was only a four-day cruise, so entertainment was a little limited. The Ship had a super fun waterpark with a giant octopus, and a rope course. Total blast. We spent two whole days on their private island Just basking in the sun, walking the whole island, and relaxing on the beach.

Norwegian: Chill Vibes

Most recently, I tried Norwegian. The ship was spotless, and the weather was cooler than we’re used to—but that meant we got to sleep with the balcony door open, listening to the waves at night. Heaven.

The only downside? Most activities were crammed into one small lounge with maybe 100 seats. People would claim their spot and sit all day, so if you weren’t there early, you were out of luck.

Coming Soon: Princess Cruises

Next up, I’m boarding the brand-new Princess ship—so new it hasn’t even had passengers yet. I’m excited to check out their new MedallionClass tech and see how Princess stacks up against the others. Stay tuned—this one’s going to be fun.
